School Council Hallowe'en Dance

Thank you to the Bayview Fairways School Council for organizing our annual Hallowe'en Dance for our students and families.

The dance was well attended and everyone enjoyed the pizza, music, children's dancing, mummy competition, and the Hallowe'en photo booth.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank those parents who made a donation to the school for this event.

Play Leaders Gets off to Great Start

The purpose of the Play Leaders program is to encourage students to become more physically active and for older students to gain leadership skills through peer-led fun active games at recess.  The program also creates leadership opportunities for students in grades 4 to 8 as they learn about:
·        Conflict resolution,
·        Communication,
·        Respect,
·        Fairness,
·        Safety,
·        Good sportsmanship and
·        Leadership.

Play leaders are trained at our school by our Child and Youth Worker, Mrs. Knopman and our teaching staff, Mme Stewart and Mr. Flash.

We held our first sessions this week at first recess.  The students in grades 1 to 3 who participated in the program were active, engaged, and were great listeners.  Our play leaders were showing strong leadership skills  such as applying fair rules to the games, making sure all students were involved and ensuring the students were having fun.

In the Spirit of Thanksgiving

Mrs. Mourachova's kindergarten class has created a drama centre to focus on a pumpkin patch, making pumpkin muffins and purchasing pumpkins.

The class is also involved in a pumpkin inquiry and the students are currently planting pumpkin seeds and watching and measuring how the seeds will grow.

Having Fun In French Class

Students in French class are learning how to write about describing a monster.  They are creating simple sentences in French from a model.  Here is Madame's model of how to describe a monster, just in time for Hallowe'en.

Hallowe'en Window Display

Thank you to one of our School Council members for creating a wonderful Hallowe'en Display window in our front foyer.
Happy Hallowe'en at Bayview Fairways

Halloween Celebration on Friday October 30 at Bayview Fairways P.S.

Each year, our students celebrate the long-standing tradition of Halloween.

Students celebrating this occasion in costume at our school must comply with the Safe School’s policy. Costume accessories including, but not limited to:

  • toy guns, knives, axes, swords, daggers, axes, any replica weapon

are not in compliance with York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0. All costume accessories of this nature CANNOT be brought to school.  Please ensure that these items remain at home.  The same policy also extends to the School Council Hallowe’en Dance on Thursday October 29.

Please note that this policy applies to all students at all levels, including Kindergarten.

In addition, NO food will be allowed in to the school for Halloween for sharing.  Please ensure that all candies and baked goods remain at home.  Candy is NOT to be handed out in any classroom. Any food that is brought in for classrooms will be returned to parents unopened.  We want to ensure that our students with life threatening allergies remain safe at school.  As a general reminder, ALWAYS check ingredients of packaged products for your child’s snacks and lunches to ensure that the label does not say, “May contain peanuts”.

Thank you for your understanding.

We look forward to having a safe and enjoyable Halloween.
